well, i got back from the big apple last week. i'm super behind in my classes and the film project, but hopefully i will be able to take all the inspiration from new york and incorporate it into my work; i've gotta buckle down like none other now and crank out drawings like crazy. just wanted to record what we did~
we visited....
these artists:
kinuko craft, burt silverman, paul zelinsky, brett helquist, and brad holland.
these museums:
norman rockwell museum
the frick collection (my favorite!)
the metropolitan museum of art
the museum of american illustration (at SI, along with the other galleries there)
and these other Awesomes:
abrams books (publisher)
richard solomon (agent)
society of illustrators
for me...
it was fun to visit new york again, where i spent 6 weeks of this past summer interning for brett helquist and the society of illustrators. my old stompin' grounds! also, check this out: we made it to richard solomon's blog! i'm most definitely in the first picture. my expression isn't one of boredom; it's probably one of pain from sitting on the heater for over an hour.
and because a post isn't complete without art, here's just my first sketchbook page of stuff from the trip.

You know, I can't help but marvel at how absolutely talented you are! You's amazing miss! I hope you know that! and I'm so glad you have developed your talents because I know your work has brightened my day more than once. So even though I know you've gone through a lot of long HARD hours/days/months/years to develop it I want to say thank you for not hiding your light under a bushel. :]
ReplyDeleteI want to make a second enthusiastic comment/reaction! :) I gave a talk on inspiration last Sunday and I totally thought of all the parrallels with Art. Nueva York would be an amazing Inspiration! Let it carry you through your projects and I love your style. It is continually evolving and changing. I am so excited for you.
ReplyDeletei like the method of summarizing the trip with putting up the links to the people and places and awesomes that you saw and visited and experienced.
ReplyDeleteand i like the picture of you at mr. solomon's office... :)
we can talk about it at chocolate. ...in june... : S
Can I just tell you that I am almost in tears I missed being able to go on that trip with y'all? I wish I had been there. Kinuko Craft is one of my all-time favorites... I kept telling Bethanne how much I wanted to see her. You must call and tell me all about it.
