scattered sketchbooks

well, i'm currently in new york for an illustration 'field trip', if you will. this past summer i interned here with the society of illustrators and brett helquist, so it's been fun to be back in my old stomping grounds.
...

two weeks ago, my fellow art student and friend natalie and i got to pick up c.f. payne from the airport. the next day, she and i were fortunate to accompany two of our professors and chris payne to lunch. he is phenomenal.

the content of this post has nothing to do with new york OR the internships, but this place sure does inspire me. in celebration of inspiration, i'm posting these sketchbook pages i did while listening to c.f. payne lecture.

interesting: before his lectures i was super uninspired and drew rather poorly and angst-ily
...and while listening to him, i drew pretty decently.
odd phenomenon, what happens when you're inspired....

maybe when i get back home i'll find my old new york sketchbooks and post stuff from there. meanwhile, i'll work on sketching some current new york drawings. :)

  1. i have a crush on your sketchbooks....
    but you already knew that.

interesting note about how your work improved when you were listening to him.

i'm going to think about that as i do my animations and lighting and compositing and whatever else....
