one head painting
here is my favorite study i did in justin taylor's head painting class this semester*. ideally, i'd show you all my less-than-great ones first, but this is the only one i have in a digital format and i'm getting antsy and want to post.
he had us do monochrome paintings for a good chunk of the semester, which was extremely helpful when we delved into color. i think this was burnt umber. i used it in extremely transparent layers for the underpainting and darks, and then built up the lights by mixing white with it.

i didn't know that you could paint on masonite. i suppose you can paint anywhere, so i should say i didn't know that you did paint on masonite.
ReplyDeletei think it's a really cool idea to start working in monochrome. i never would have thought of that but i like it and it works great with your work here.
really dig the strong shadows on her neck and the bold lines and strong shape of her nose and eyes.
i don't know if i'd seen this before. really good work.
It is awesome to see the progress from the other post to this one. You have a talent for painting people, and I think that part of this is probably due to your understanding of them both on the inside and out. Thanks for sharing your talents :)
