me[h]

sometimes, you just need to draw out your frustration. i forget that sometimes. but it is very helpful.

i'll probably ink and/or color it later.

birthday chair!

today is my birthday! i spent the majority of the afternoon trying to figure out estefan's chair. so...i'm just going to say it's my birthday chair. unless i have time to draw something more festive (which is unlikely today). enjoy :)

wish i had a chair like this, actually. i bid you all a very merry my-birthday!

ny trip :: the words

well, i got back from the big apple last week. i'm super behind in my classes and the film project, but hopefully i will be able to take all the inspiration from new york and incorporate it into my work; i've gotta buckle down like none other now and crank out drawings like crazy. just wanted to record what we did~

we visited....

these artists:
kinuko craft, burt silverman, paul zelinsky, brett helquist, and brad holland.

these museums:
norman rockwell museum
the frick collection (my favorite!)
the metropolitan museum of art
the museum of american illustration (at SI, along with the other galleries there)

and these other Awesomes:
abrams books (publisher)
richard solomon (agent)
society of illustrators

for me...
it was fun to visit new york again, where i spent 6 weeks of this past summer interning for brett helquist and the society of illustrators. my old stompin' grounds! also, check this out: we made it to richard solomon's blog! i'm most definitely in the first picture. my expression isn't one of boredom; it's probably one of pain from sitting on the heater for over an hour.

and because a post isn't complete without art, here's just my first sketchbook page of stuff from the trip.

scattered sketchbooks

well, i'm currently in new york for an illustration 'field trip', if you will. this past summer i interned here with the society of illustrators and brett helquist, so it's been fun to be back in my old stomping grounds.
...

two weeks ago, my fellow art student and friend natalie and i got to pick up c.f. payne from the airport. the next day, she and i were fortunate to accompany two of our professors and chris payne to lunch. he is phenomenal.

the content of this post has nothing to do with new york OR the internships, but this place sure does inspire me. in celebration of inspiration, i'm posting these sketchbook pages i did while listening to c.f. payne lecture.

interesting: before his lectures i was super uninspired and drew rather poorly and angst-ily
...and while listening to him, i drew pretty decently.
odd phenomenon, what happens when you're inspired....

maybe when i get back home i'll find my old new york sketchbooks and post stuff from there. meanwhile, i'll work on sketching some current new york drawings. :)

and so it [officially] begins

hi there! i'm kristin, and i like being awesome. i also like to draw. so...i'm drawesome.

welcome to my art place. it has existed for a while, but was password-protected due to my perfectionistic nature until i made it good n' shiny. alas, it is a work in progress. but i feel like it's looking pretty swell.

for those of you who know me personally, you'll most likely know about my personal blog. if you don't know me, well, that's a shame. we could be friends and that blog is awesome. either way, that blog has more words and other things of interest (music things, thought things, art things), but this one will primarily display stuff i make. art stuff. i also might include words like this post, but will generally post art.

i have already posted lots of old artwork just to have a better collection of my art in one place, and so you have some posts to peruse right away. yes...i am thinking of you, dear reader.

i would love comments and critiques, or even a 'hello' as you come visit the blog.  hope you have an adventure while you're here! everyone in!

chairs and such

look, props! i'm in charge of creating estefan's salon chair. integrating spanish architectural style/structure of salon chairs/style of the film is a tricky machine, but i'm starting to figure it out.

shh...it's ESTEFAN!

i have the amazing opportunity to work on BYU's student short animation this year, Estefan! it's a film about the greatest hair dresser in the world, an his dealings with a...difficult client. i'm on the style team as part of the design team. it's lots of work to be a concept artist, and i'm loving it! above are early ideas for our title character.
